GAMES/CASTXT1

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

                          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                          by Richard Dimond
This is a patience game which I learnt from a book I borrowed from the
library and thought I could make a good computer version.  I must admit
that some of the routines for shuffling and selecting the cards and the
designs are cribbed from a card game from EU as these are needed in any
card game.  I have made a few changes though to try to improve the
presentation.
Though it is simple to play, it does not often work out and you must be
careful not to build up any suit too far - they must be built up
reasonably equally.
I have found that it is possible to repeat deals by arranging for the
'seed' value to be entered before the cards are shuffled.  Perhaps some of
you might like to try to add this feature to the program - I thought of
doing this but was not sure of the best way to do it.
The program could probably also be improved with more sound effects!
