Select
Menu
Adjust
SELECT
This is used to select objects, to position
the caret in text, and to choose items off
menus and windows. Because this is the most
frequently used mouse button, the word 'click'
means click Select if no other button is
specified.
You can push the paper around by pressing
Select on a blank patch and dragging.
THE SELECTED OBJECT
A few objects are selected in special ways:
� Notes: click on the notehead (not the stem)
� Whole chords: double-click on any notehead
� Automatic accidentals, articulation marks,
beams, stems and dots: these cannot be
selected directly - you should select the
note they belong to and adjust them using
the function keys
� Bar of music on one stave: double-click on
the stave itself; you can extend the select-
ed passage by doing Shift-Select on another
bar
� Bar of music down the whole system: triple-
click on the stave itself; again, Shift-
Select extends the selected passage
� Multirests: click on the multirest symbol
itself rather than the number above.
Clicking Select briefly on the paper or typing
Ctrl-Z deselects the selected object.
MENU
This simply pops up the Sibelius menu. Menu
options are normally chosen with Select,
though choosing with Adjust keeps the menu on
the screen so you can make further choices.
Choosing a menu name rather than going into
the menu itself generally chooses the top item
of the menu.
When editing most text styles, Menu produces
a list of useful words appropriate to that
style; choosing one types it in.
ADJUST
This copies the selected object.
Alt-Adjust copies notes, chords, rests, grace-
notes and irrational rhythms into the second
voice.
Ctrl-Adjust (or Ctrl-Alt-Adjust) makes a note
or chord copy to the same pitch.
