The stickleback is up to 5 cm. in length. The male is very brightly coloured during the breeding season, with a clear green back, red throat and belly, with bright blue eyes. It can be found in rivers, lakes and ponds usually in shallow, clear water. The stickleback spawns in spring and summer, making its nest on the water's edge. The eggs and newly hatched fry are guarded by the male for about a week. The stickleback is eaten by pike, perch, otters and kingfishers. � *Text*126 � Draw� Hilighter | l � | l
