!Sibelius7/!Help/Spacing

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

HORIZONTAL SPACING

The horizontal spacing of music is determined
by the rhythm of the notes within it. Sibelius
gives notes a default spacing which depends on
their note-values and other features such as
accidentals to the left of them. You can ad-
just this spacing manually by dragging notes,
rests or barlines left and right.

Additionally, you can change the default
spacing Sibelius gives to notes by choosing
  House styleSpacingClose/Normal/Wide notes.
This only affects new notes you add, not ones
already in the score. You can switch on wide
note spacing before transcribing a passage of
very fast music, where the notes would other-
wise be rather cramped, and switch it off for
subsequent bars. This saves you having to
increase the spacing manually, note by note.

These options also affects how parts will be
spaced when they are extracted - see Part
  extraction.

VERTICAL SPACING

The vertical spacing of staves depends on how
many fit on a particular page. Sibelius nor-
mally fits as many systems onto a page as it
can, and then spreads the staves and systems
out to fill the page down to the bottom. If
there are very few staves, Sibelius instead
puts all the staves at the top of the page,
leaving a gap at the bottom.

You can adjust the vertical spacing by press-
ing Select on an empty bit of a stave and
  dragging it up or down.
