This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

!Help ===== Program : !Modes Author : Kevin J Swinton Purpose : Mode chart creator � 1994 Archimedes World Purpose ------- This short program is useful for students of the guitar, classical, acoustic or electric. It provides a desktop window whereby the user can select any root-base and any of the standard seven modes : ionian(major), dorian, phrygian, lydian,mixolydian, aeolian(natural minor) and locrian. Having selected the desired root and mode, the window displays a typical fingering for students. Two selectable option-buttons allow for the scale progression to start from the 5th string, and also to provide an alternative fingering. (When the option marked "fast" is selected, the algorithm follows the classical rule of "one finger per fret" within limits). The fingering can be saved as a draw-file, allowing it to be incorporated into documents, and users of Sibelius 6/7 may find this particularly useful when transcribing guitar pieces for technical examination. To save as a draw-file, select the "Save" icon at the bottom of the main window. A standard dialogue box will appear from which it is possible to drag the icon to a directory display. Subsequent loading into a Draw-based application displays the mode name, the technical format of the modal scale, and also the fingering itself, for 2 octaves. The application also interacts with Acorn's !Help application, and so should be used if need be.
