ImpJunior/Examples/Tutorial/Floppies

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

{"Justify" on}The 3{\ 189} inch floppy disc is the main archival medium for the Archimedes. This size of disc is the latest in a line of floppy disc sizes, each physically smaller then the last. The original size of floppy disc was 8 inch, followed by the 5{\ 188} inch popular on the IBM PC.
Despite the reductions in size, improved manufacturing techniques mean that all sizes of floppy disc can hold roughly the same amout of data (from about 600KB up to 1{\ 189} MBytes).
Remember that all magnetic media can be corrupted if exposed to other magnetic fields. These fields could be obvious ones like loudspeakers or the not so obvious ones like your monitor. It{\ 145}s not a good idea to leave your floppy discs sitting on top of the monitor.
Also remember that floppy discs can get damaged or fail. For this reason, you should never archive valuable documents to only{"Trinity.Bold" on} one {"Trinity.Bold" off}disc {\ 151} always use two.{"Justify" off}
