N E W S ********************************************************************* Just when you thought it was safe to sit back and browse quietly through the latest issue of EUG, a wild-eyed Will Watts sticks his ugly mug in your face and screams "Does anybody else want to be editor???!" Yes, the bearded wonder is at it again, pleading for some poor half-crazed wretch to take over his role as Supreme Ruler of the Galaxy (delusions of grandeur come with the job!). I won't bore you with the writhing convolutions of my fascinating private life, let's just say that circustances lead me to believe that it would be best for me to stand down very soon, due to a lack of free time. Let me make it absolutely clear that the User Group is NOT about to fold, it will continue to trundle along in its usual eratic way. So, lets not have a repeat of the mass desertion that occured after I made a similar announcement in Issue 10. BUT remember, unless I can find someone to take over from me I will be sticking my lower lip out in the biggest, most childish pout you've ever seen (and I'll hold my breath 'til I turn blue)! You can also expect to receive less than 6 issues a year too. The two most obvious candidates for the job are , Derek Walker and Richard Dimond, but both feel unable to take on further commitments so it's down to one (or more) of you to step forward. If no single person is willing to volunteer to take full responibility perhaps some of you would consider doing it by committee sharing the work between you. If you have even the slightest suspicion that you might be able to help out, contact me as soon as possible. Even if you don't fancy taking on an "official" role, you can still make valuable contributions by sending lots of scrummy submissions in the form of letters and articles. You don't have to be an "expert" on anything, you can just tell us all about yourself and what you use your computer for. It's amazing how much useful information can be obtained in this way. For example, did you know that "Noarc" is an anagram of the word "Acorn"??? No, I don't know what it means either, but that's not the point..... So, to sum up, you should continue to send your letters, ad's articles and solid gold bars to me at:- E.U.G. (MAG), 134 GREAT KNIGHTLEYS, BASILDON, ESSEX, SS15 5HQ. PLEASE send your pearls of wisdom on disc! I am a two-finger typist with the attention span of a used tea bag, so would really appreciate your cooperation. We had some ideas about this and Will has asked me to put it together for him. All text files are now formatted View files. For printing to screen or printer, HIMEM is set at &2800 and files are LOADed to this address. They are then read to the screen from this address with a short M/Code routine. This avoids the screen blanking when files a read from the disc. One small snag arose with some of the files because of the use of TAB in View. This causes the text to be misaligned on using the above routine and it is better to use INSERT CHAR (CTRL+9) or spaces to centralise or indent text - I have had to edit out these TABs.
