Coming down to the nitty-gritty and, as Harold said, "the pound in your pocket will be the same" as long as you don't want to buy top-end PC packages of 300, 400, 500 and even 600. Does anyone actually buy PC software ? The main reason most of my colleagues opted for PCs was the easy availability of software packages (and not from the shops either). Apart from one or two specialised products like Sebelius, Procad and Impression Publisher, top end Acorn titles tend to be around the 150 mark with the vast majority of serious software being below 100. Games range from 10 to 30 ish with CD Roms approximating to the PC titles. You won't get many Acorn titles ariving by Parcel Farce on mega-multiple discs and they won't take you all day to install on your harddisc, but gone are the ELK days of 10,20, or 30 progs on one disc. In summarising, you'll find the hardware, including the basic computer, dearer and the software cheaper, although you can now buy a basic, fully fledged 32-bit RISC computer with 2 MB of memory for less than 200. Computer preference is a bit like politics in that no way will you change a die-hard, true blue, rabid Thatcherite into a human being, so it is with computer platforms. You either love, or hate 'em. One thing is for sure, you won't be able to communicate with Gus and his Elk with your PC as I am with the 3010. That kind of up-gradability is unheard of in the PC world.
