!AWOct94/Goodies/PicPairs/!Help

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

What is !PicPairs?

PicPairs is a simple (but pretty) memory game which
can be played either against another human player,
or the computer.

How to start a game:

To start a two player game press 0 on the keyboard and
the screen will clear to show the main playing board.

To start a game against the computer, press a number
between 1 and 5. This indicates the level you wish to
start on.

Level 1 is the easiest, and level 5 the hardest. Bonus
points are awarded for beating the computer on a higher
level.

Playing:

Play alternates between players, who must use the mouse
to choose two tiles from the board. This is done by
clicking a mouse button on the desired tiles.

If the two tiles uncovered match, then a point and an
extra go are awarded to the current player.

Scores are shown to the right of the board.

If the two tiles do not match, then the tiles are
covered up again and both players must remember what
picture is under the tile.

A game is finished when all but two tiles have been
matched up.

Winning a two player game:

At the end of play there is a definate winner.
Pressing any key or mouse button will return you to the
title screen.

Winning a one player game:

If you win against the computer, then another match is
played with the computer at a slightly higher skill level.

The amount of points won in previous games is kept as a
running total and when you eventually lose to the computer
your score may be high enough to gain you a place on the
high score table.
