          Collisions 2000 - Enter The Magic Drainpipe

     It is the year 2000 and the last spherical object in the 
entire universe has just floated down the strange new phenomenon 
in quantum physics known as the magic drainpipe. Obviously, this 
seriously threatens the future of soccer and so a multi-squillion 
dollar research project has been launched to try to retrieve the 
ball which has recently been sighted in a strange dimension just
off the East coast. It is your job to guide the sphere back to 
Leeds, where it can be cloned and used to create a footballing 
paradise.
     When the game is loaded then you are presented with the main 
menu, complete with a wonderful scrolltext. The three icons down 
the left hand side are (top to bottom) help, editor and quit. 
Note that if you want to create your own levels, then the game 
must be copied from the Arc World disk to your own blank disk.
     To turn the sound on and off, click on the 'speaker icons'.
To turn the music on and off, click on the 'music icons'.
     Do not worry if you find these instructions complicated.
They will become clear when you play the game.

THE GAME:

     To start a game press space, click on 'Enter the Magic 
Drainpipe' or enter a password (by clicking on the password icon).
When the game is started then you will see the playing area (the
white rectangle) and the control panel below. In a certain time
limit, shown in the statistics section of the control panel, the
sphere will be released and must reach the finish block (the multi-
coloured polka dots). To ensure that the ball reaches the finish 
square, you must place certain blocks yourself. Do this by 
clicking over the icon on the control panel representing the 
block you wish to place. Then click over the position in the 
playing area, where you would like the block to go. Different
blocks have different effects. The effects of each block are
described below in the same order as they appear on the control
panel.

Reverse - When the ball passes OVER this block it will change 
direction.

Normal - The ball will just move over this block with no other 
effect.

Bounce - When the ball passes OVER this block, it will speed up 
and jump the next two squares, assuming nothing is in its path.

Hole - The ball will fall through the holes.

     You will meet many other blocks apart from this, but they 
are only available from the editor.
     After you have placed all the blocks and you feel that you 
are ready for the ball to come out then press the right hand mouse 
button. Note that you are only allocated a certain number of each 
type of block. The number of blocks available to 
you is shown on the control 
panel depending on which block is currently selected. If your ball 
becomes trapped then you can commit suicide by pressing 'S' while 
the ball is moving, or return to the main menu by pressing 
ESCAPE.
     To quit the game, click on the 'Acorn' icon from the main 
menu.

Hints: Watch out for lifts, invisible blocks and ball crushing 
machines.
       There are some interesting features which you will have to 
find for yourselves, particularly related to lifts, changing 
direction and committing suicide.
     You cannot 'bounce' into the finish block.

THE EDITOR:

     The more adventurous players may wish to design their own 
levels. This can be done by using the built-in editor.
     When you enter the editor, you will see the blocks at the 
bottom of the screen and the editing area above them. Select 
the block which you wish to place by clicking over it and
position it by clicking in the editing area with the left hand 
button. If you wish to erase a block, you must click with the 
right hand button. When you position a lift block, you must place
two blocks: the starting position of the lift and then the
finishing position of the lift. Note that lifts can only move
vertically and you cannot have more than one lift in the same
horizontal position.
     To use the numerous options of the editor click on 
'Options'. Most of the options are self-explanatory, but there 
are a few which must be explained:

Save/Load level: DO NOT REMOVE THE COLLISIONS DISC! The levels 
are automatically saved on the collisions disk in a special 
directory exclusively for level data! You must enter the name of 
your set of levels when prompted and then enter the number of the 
level you wish to save/load. To play a set of levels which you 
have saved, you must select to 'Load level set' from the main 
menu.

Load Blocks: Will load a new set of icons for you to position.

No. of blocks: Allows you to set the number of blocks which can 
be placed by the user when playing your level. There are four 
sets of blocks available (Biological (default), Technical, 
Industrial and Mad!)

Statistics: Allows you to set the time-limit and password for 
your level.

Return to editor: Redraw your level in the editing area and allow 
you to continue editing.

To return to the main menu from the editor, you must click on the 
'Menu' icon.
