This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Information about the pattern and template files 1. Extra information ---------------------------- Tuning The normal tuning setting of the Archimedes appears to be slightly flat of 'concert' pitch. This is not particularly important unless you are playing with other acoustic or MIDI instruments. The solution is to change the tuning setting on the icon bar menu Sound... dialogue box. Setting it either one or two places to the right moves the Archimedes system tuning to a more accurate value. Screen redraw while playing Redrawing the screen as the song is playing a complex song occupies an enormous amount of computer processing power. In some situations the sound may even get temporarily interrupted as the screen redraws. The solutions are: - slow the song down - stop the screen redrawing the music either by making the window smaller or turning scrolling off from the Options menu - upgrade your machine to an ARM3 processor! Very long held notes such as in the song Folk seem to tie up a lot of processing power. Songs The song RobotsMIDI is set up for the sounds on a PSS795 keyboard. This means that it will sound strange if it is played on the Archimedes internal sound system. 2. Voice modules ------------------------ Due to the nature of sound samples, some voice modules sound better/more realistic at certain pitches. Some voice modules play an octave away from the pitch shown on the screen. Listening is the only real answer! They only occupy one track however and the different sounds are accessed from the notes Middle C, D, E, F, G, and A. These would normally only be used on treble clef tracks. No other notes will produce a sound.
