EDIT1
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Well another fine disk you've got me into. And it is too. Not so much on the sales front though. I have contacted a number of suppliers and while some did reply with adequate details of their supplies for the Elk some others couldn't find the time and a few couldn't be bothered. Perhaps they don't need the revenue? I was in Preston recently and was approached by someone offering to sell a joke mag apparently on behalf of unemployed people. It was published by Student Media Services of Marton Lancashire. There are a few 'adult' items some of which are very funney and there were a few variations on the theme of the number of people to put in a light bulb. Californians... 21. 1 to put in the bulb, 20 to share theexperience. Psychiatrists... 1, but the bulb must want to change. Polytechnic students... 76, 1 to hold the bulb, the other 75 to turn the room around. University Students... 2, 1 to hold the bulb the other to turn him around. Oxford University Students... 1, He just holds the bulb and waits for the world to revolve around him. You may have noticed the last item in the main menu. I was sent a couple of disk of a while ago by Simon Pilley with a number of screen grabs from TV. The first disk is of various 'Pop' singers while the second is of Blake's Seven Characters. The screens take a lot of room and so far I haven't had the space to put them in. I have put Servalan on this disk to give a taste of what he has done. I chose Servalan because Ithink she is a fasinating character. This months screen is by our own Richard Dimond. EUG16's screen was by Meriolis an enigmatic EUG member. I have tried to find the producer of the screen in EUG15 but I can't. To whoever it was I am sorry. If you write I will give you credit next time. I was sent a disk for submission from MOSSPD. Unfortunatly, the disk was damaged and some of it needed to be repaired. I haven't had it back yet so hopefully it will appear in the next issue. Anyway MOSSPD will probably send you details of their supplies if you write to them. MOSSPD, 11, Rye Crescent, Bourton on the Water, Cheltenham, Glos. GL54 2EL. What I saw look very good. I said some time ago that I would look into the possability of giving some inducement to members paying their subscriptions yearly. This would be an advantage as I could plan exenditure better if I know what I am likely to need. Unfortunatly I will have to leave it as a request to members. Firstly because I am simply unable to offer any reduction in price at this time. Secondly, some members have said that they prefer to subscribe for one disk at a time. I really don't think that this is such an unreasonable position that I can justify penalising them with a price rise. So I will have to simply leave it for the moment by asking all members to consider paying a year in advance. For UK members this will be 6 X `1.30 = `7.80 EUG16 DFS version was sent out as a flippy. I asked members to write saying if they had double sided drives so that I could simply send double sided disks. Only a few of you have written so I will continue to use flippys for DFS users. Thanks to those who made the effort though. A while ago I asked members if they would mind if I used members codes as I planned to develop a members database on the Elk. Well I have had a lot of help from Richard who has undoubtedly been burning the midnight oil but in the mean time I have developed a system using card files which I'm sorry to say works out fine. I may still develop members codes and perhaps start using Richards excellent database but at the moment it is easier to use my cards. The file CODE2 contains the assembly to print text and graphics to screen and a printer. I have in fact combined the two routines which appeared in EUG16 since there were no complaints about how either worked. I am hoping to combine the menu program so that there will be one for the whole disk and also perhaps have a facility to print all or large parts of the disk from a single command. I had a report from a member who said that he is having difficulties with reading the text as it is laid out. Giving the option of either 40 or 80 column is quite easy but text files need to be reformatted to avoid problems with word wrap. I have tried to reformat text files so that they could be read either in 40 or 80 column but it was so tedious I had to give up. I have however reproduced a letter from RichardDimond in 40 column. I will continue to look into this problem and perhaps explore the possability of giving the option of changing the screen and text colours. I must confess that since I personally use a green screen monitor I don't really have a problem so I haven't noticed it before. I can see that for some types of screens though it will be difficult to read small text. Anyway on with EUG17. Keep the submissions comming in. And remember about the product review for the August edition. PS. I have just received a disk from Matthew Ford with a number of very interesting submissions. Too late for this edition I'm afraid but they will be in EUG18. 'Gus Donnachaidh. 0705 781168
