This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Hydrogen (+)
The word hydrogen comes from the greek hudor (water) and gennaien (to
produce). Hydrogen is the lightest element known to man. Hydrogen
is present in water and also in every acid. It is the most abundant
element in the universe. To test for hydrogen place a lighted splint
by the gas, if it pops hydrogen is present.

The word helium comes from the greek helios (the Sun). It is one of

by Lockyer in 1868, it was only really discovered later on by
Hillebrand in 1895. It is sometimes used for gas mixtures for
deep-sea diving.

Yellow metal

Gold is a soft metal that is found pure. It is not affected by air
or water. It is the most malleable and ductile of all the metals and
is very heavy with a relative density of 19.4. It is very unreactive
and used to be used for coinage. Nowadays it is mainly used for
jewellery. The purity of gold is measured in carats.

Silvery liquid

Mercury (also known as quicksilver) is the only metal that is liquid
at room temperature. Because of this it is often used in
thermometers. When cooled down to a solid it is very malleable and
ductile. It is also a good conductor of heat and electricity.
It is poisonous, so alcohol is often used in thermometers instead.

Lead is found in many minerals, but mainly galena. It has a relative
density of 11.4 and is very malleable, tough and flexible. It is
resistant to air and acids. Many lead compounds are poisonous, and
lead also forms many alloys, such as bronze, solder and pewter.

This is a rare metal and is found in cobalt and silver ores. It is
hard and brittle and has a relative density of 9.75. It reacts if
left in the air and if burned it produces a blue flame. Some bismuth
compounds are used in medecine.
