This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

The Storyline
-------------

The year is 3042 AD and space travel has advanced somewhat (well that's if you call travelling around in a blue and black checkered ball along a track in space advanced) anyway a new track or 'interstella by-pass' has been proposed by the intergalactic space council as the existing route fallen into a state of disrepair as it is full of holes and many of the superconductors in the track are playing up which has strange affects on vehicles traveling on it.
However there is one small problem...    there is a small planet in the way of the proposed route.
The ISC (intergalactic space council) aren't to concerned about demolishing this small and insignificent little planet affectionatly known as earth, however the residents of this planet don't share this opinion.
After long protests the ISC agrees to scrap the new route and to repair the existing track, on one condition...   as they say 'time is money' and the new route would be very fast, so the challenge is set you must complete the old route in a set time in order for them to change their plans.

System Requirements
-------------------

1Mb or more of RAM
RISC OS 2,3.00 or 3.1x (RISC OS 3 recommended)
A3010 compatible joystick (optional)

Loading
-------

To load Roll On double click on it's icon in a filer window in the usual way.

This program will only work with the Risc PC using either GameOn or StrongGuard.

N.B. Don't try to run Roll On from within an archive as it needs to write to the disc.
After a short time Roll On's start up banner will appear on the screen and shortly after that it's icon will appear on the iconbar.
To play the game click with select on the icon on the iconbar.
If you press menu over the icon you will get a menu with the following options:

| Scrolly... | - Opens a small window containing a scrolly message.
| Animation  | - Toggles the iconbar animation.

Trouble Shooting
----------------

'Application needs 650k to start up' error : Roll On needs at least 640k of memory free to run, quit some other applications, reduce 'system sprite memory', 'RAM Disc' and 'Font Cache' sizes in the 'Task Manager' to zero and try again.
If you are playing on a RISC PC see note above.

Playing
-------

The object of the game is to complete all the stages of the course within a set time limit.  The various different coloured sections of the track have different affects:
Blue - Makes you jump N.B. this doesn't use up a jump credit.
Green - Prevents you from moving left or right or bouncing.
Yellow - Turbo - increases the speed of your ball.
Pink - Reverses your controls so right is left and left is right.
Red - Slows your ball down.
Black - A black hole!
Any other colours have no affect. 

If you fall down a hole you will get a 3 second time penalty before continuing.

The red bar in the bottom left hand corner changes to green as you travel through the level to show how much further is left to go.    

You can try each level as many times as you like i.e. you don't have to go back to level one each time you fail to complete a level, also the highest level you have reached is written to disc when you quit or press save in the options window so you can continue where you left off when you next play the game (so don't forget to quit Roll On before you reset or turn off the computer, as if you do the level you've reached will not be written to disc and you'll have t do them all again!).
