Loading

The program loads and installs on the icon-bar in the ordinary manner.
It is not normally neccesary to decompress this program before running.
Playing
~~~~~~~
A window opens up showing the level number.
You can change the level using the arrows to the right of the number:
Level 0 - A doddle Level 999 - Rather tricky, really
Now, click select on "Play". You are shown Chris and Max's Hot Air Balloon
heading towards a pretty impressive looking cliff, Plus a nice little box
with a letter in it. If you type the letter, you will find that the balloon
climbs for a short time. Keep typing in the letters with a view to getting
the balloon over the top of the cliff. Easy? Try level 150!
An alternative and in fact better way of activating the progam is to put the
caret in the writable icon and press return. This means you can have both hands
on the keyboard before you start.
You can either choose to enter words, phrases or letters by clicking on the
icons on the right hand side of the window. The phrases, which are randomly generated,
although usually grammatically correct, rarely make sense!
Auto-Play
~~~~~~~~~
With Auto-Play activated, If you complete the level you are on, you are sent
to the next-but-one level automatically. This saves going back to the
desktop, changing the level and returning to the game. You will be returned
to the game if you fail to complete a level, or if you press escape.
Case Control
~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you enter the game, caps lock is set to the most sensible state,
depending on whether the game is set to words, phrases or letters.
The original state of the keyboard is reset once you leave the game.
If entering words or phrases, you must strictly observe the case of the
letter you should type in. (ie hold down Shift whilst typing in CAPITALS)
To Leave the Game

If when inside the game you decide you ought to be back at the desktop
writing that essay, press Escape.
Highest Level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although you may type any level up to 999 into the icon, levels 150 - 999
are impossible and are included just for show. If you do complete level 150,
your cheating!
Pause
~~~~~
The game can be paused by pressing the Scroll Lock key. Pressing it again
unpause the game.
ARM-3 Users
~~~~~~~~~~~
If your lucky/rich enough to own an ARM 3, you may like to press F12 and type
Cache Off
and press return twice before you start playing, and similarly type Cache On
when you have finished.
(Otherwise it`s much harder and you have a very hyperactive bird!!!)
Words and phrases
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The section of the word or phrase that you have already typed is shown in
green. Spaces in words and phrases are shown as bullet points (�) once typed in.
The words are stored in a directory called Dictionary in the main program
directory (hold down shift whils double-clicking on !Fastkey).
They may be changed or added to, but make sure the word will make
sense when used with the other words. The list called imperative - used
first - should contain commands - Eat,Stop,Drink,Wash etc. The second list
contains nouns & proper nouns eg Fred, algebra, Acorn. The final list
contains adverbs. These are words that usually end in "ly". This format
means that sentences tend to be gramitically correct. The list can be in any
order you like and up to 255 words long, although arranging them
alphabetically makes it easier to see which words already exist. You can put
comment lines in a filke by starting the line with "|".
Make sure there is no blank lines at the end of the file, and no spaces
are added at the end of words. You could of course change the language of
the words, but it would have to be done with care to make sure it always
made sense!
If, of course, you don't use the phrases setting, only the words, it doesn't
matter which words you have.

If you can get above the low hundreds (on single letters),
you are an excellent typist. If, like me, you find that you are nodding you
head in a ridiculous fashion, first looking at the keyboard, then back at
the screen, we are not so good.
Practice Makes Pefrect!!!
This program is paricularly suitable for dislexics
(I tried it with one person shouting out the letters, and one person hitting the keys).
Known Bugs
~~~~~~~~~~
+ With RISC-OS 3, if you change between certain modes, The main and info windows can go
funny. The only remedy is to quit from !FastKey and restart.
+ Sometimes an error box pops up that says "End of file"
This means that one of the dictionaries does not have
a single blank line at the end of it.
