FURTHER NOTES ON ROMBOX+ PROBLEMS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Manythanks for your suggestions regarding my problems. The original Rombox had 8 ROM sockets but no cartidge slots and this is the one which you repaired. My Rombox is a later type with 4 ROM sockets and 2 cartridge slots. Since I wrote my appeal for help, I have had another attempt and it would seem that I have now cured the fault. This seems to have been due to the contacts of the edge connector on the Rombox. I had tried to make them make better contact by poking them together with the point of a scriber but this was not very satisfactory and did not completely cure the fault. I have now used a pair of pointed tweezers so that each pair of contacts could be squeezed together and so make better contact. I suppose that it would be better to replace the edge connector but as you say the plastic case is stuck together and I am reluctant to open it up. Regarding the cleaning of the edge connector on the Elk. I have got the Cleaning Pad (Maplin FM81C) for cleaning edge connectors. This is an impregnated tissue in a sachet. I found that this easier to use than a pencil eraser as you can fold it round a piece of stiff card for cleaning the top side without having to dismantle the Elk. I HAD A PLUS 2 AND AN ORIGINAL JAFA MODE 7 BOARD AS WELL AS MY PLUS 1 AND 3. I HAD A LOT OF EDGE CONNECTOR PROBLEMS. I REMOVED THE CONNECTOR FROM THE PLUS 2 AND USING SHORT LENGTHS OF WIRE SOLDIERED THE PLUS 2 AND THE MODE 7 BOARD TOGETHER. I DON'T ADVISE THIS. IT DID WORK AFTER A WHILE, I NEEDED TO DO A LOT OF RESOLDERING AND THE FINISHED RESULT IS NEVER GOING TO BE AS GOOD. ALSO IT IS EXTREEMLY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE SOLDER FROM THE GOLD CONTACTS OF THE PLUS 2.
