Introduction
------------
The visible part of this program is an interface to a relocatable
module written by the people named above. It provides many ways of
controlling the way in which the SoundTracker modules are played. Such
modules can be obtained from most PD libraries or BBSs. There follows a
description of how to use the program - further information on the
SoundTracker module can be found in the file Mod_Help.
Loading
-------
The program can be loaded from any filer window by double-clicking on
it's icon, or on any STracker tune icon. The icon will then appear on the
icon bar, ready for a tune to be loaded. Tunes may be loaded by double
clicking on them (filetype CB6). The icon on the icon bar changes to
reflect the type of tune loaded - STracker or Tracker. The tune will
then start to play. Loading further tunes will stop the previous tune,
and load the new tune, memory permitting. Any spare memory in the RMA
will be released at this point. Double clicking on a tune when the program
is not loaded will result in the program being loaded, and the tune file
loaded as well. The tune will then start to play.
The Menu
--------
Clicking on the middle mouse button over the icon on the icon bar
reveals a menu. A description of the given options follows :-

| Info | - Selecting (or moving right over the arrow) brings up a
| | window showing details about the program (version,
| | authors etc). It will disappear as soon as you perform
| | any other operation.

| Windows ->| - Leads to a submenu that gives a selection of windows
| | that may be opened. Explained later.
| |
| Click Open ->| - Leads to a submenu that gives a list of all the
| | available windows. The entrys may be toggled on/off,
| | those with a tick by them being 'on'. Those that are
| | 'on' will be opened when the icon bar icon is clicked
| | on. Those that are not 'on' will not be opened.
| |
| Delay ->| - This option leads to a writable sub-menu. This
| | specifies the delay (in centi-seconds) between each
| | refresh of the 'Control', 'Sound Info' and 'Keyboard'
| | windows. If this value is set to 0, then the windows
| | will be updated every null event. The lower this
| | number, the greater the processing time taken by the
| | program. The default value of 2 seems to give a good
| | balance between processing time and the appearance of
| | the program.
| |
| Sample Rate ->| - Leads to a submenu that gives 4 sample rate options.
| | These are:
| | Normal - The normal (default) sample rate
| | Half - Sample pitch as normal, but the sample rate
| | is halved. This results in less processor
| | time being used by the module. Some samples
| | sound clearly different at this rate.
| | Enhanced VIDC Normal
| | - For people with VIDC enhancers. The tune
| | will now sound at normal pitch, or a
| | perfect fifth lower for those without a
| | VIDC enhancer.
| | Enhanced VIDC Half
| | - Again for people with VIDC enhancers. The
| | tune will be at normal pitch for those with
| | a VIDC enhancer, and dire for those without
| | a VIDC enhancer.

| Quit | - This option removes the program from the computer's
| | memory. It will ask if you wish to stop the music.
| | If the answer to this is yes, then the music will be
| | stopped, the TrackerModule removed, and as much
| | memory as possible will be released.

| Control | - This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. It allows control over most of the
| | modules functions. The top row of icons are the control
| | icons, the lower icons giving information. The control
| | icons are (from left to right):
| | REVERSE - Moves to the beginning of the previous pattern
| | STOP - Stops the current tune & releases the memory
| | PAUSE - Pauses the current tune retaining position
| | PLAY - Restarts the tune after PAUSE
| | FORWARD - Moves to the beginning of the next pattern
| | SPEAKER - Toggles the internal speaker on/off
| | The next icon down gives the overall status of the
| | program - STOPPED, PAUSED or PLAYING. Below this are
| | the position and speed icons. Pattern is the current
| | position in the Pattern table, and Position is the
| | position within this Pattern. Speed shows how quickly
| | it moves onto a new position. 1 is fast, with higher
| | numbers being slower.
| |
| Keyboard | - This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. This window shows graphically the
| | pitch of the notes currently playing. Channel 1 uses
| | colour 8, channel 8 uses colour 15, with the other
| | channels using colour (channel no. + 8).
| | If a note is clicked on, then the Pitch field in 'Play
| | Sample' will be set accordingly, and if the tune is
| | paused, then the sample will be played.
| |
| General Info | - This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. It shows information about the
| | current tune. Author is only filled in if the tune is
| | a Tracker tune. Patterns relates to the 'Patterns'
| | field in Control.
| |
| Stereo Setting| - This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. This window allows adjustment of
| | the stereo positioning of the 8 sound channels.
| | To adjust the positions, click anywhere in the icon
| | that has a red area for the relevant channel. The
| | red block will move to the nearest possible position,
| | and the stereo position of the channel will be set
| | accordingly. The icon saying 'ON' can be toggled
| | simply by clicking on it. The icon will change
| | accordingly, and the status of the channel will as
| | well: ON - channel sounds
| | OFF - channel is muted.
| | The presets section in the lower half of the window
| | allows for quick changing of the stereo positioning.
| | By clicking on the icon, the position and status
| | of the channel will be altered according to the
| | icon clicked on.
| | The bottom row are user definable. Set the position
| | and status of the channels, and click on the red 'REC'
| | icon. The position and status of all 8 channels will
| | be recorded, and can be recalled just like the other
| | presets. The best way to understand this is by
| | experimentation.
| | The slider bar along the bottom of the window is the
| | overall volume control. Clicking on the bar will
| | cause the volume to change smoothly, the red bar
| | indicating the volume at all times. The two icons,
| | max and min, take the volume (and slider) to the
| | maximum and the minimum. It also indicates which ends
| | of the slider are maximum and minimum.
| |
| Sound Data | - This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. It shows information about what
| | notes are currently sounding. Sample shows which
| | sample is currently being used on the channel (see
| | 'Sample Info' for an explanation of the numbers).
| | Volume (in the range 0(silent) -255(loud)) is fairly
| | self explanatory. Note shows the pitch of the note
| | currently being played. The pitch is shown more
| | graphically in 'Keyboard'.

| Sample Info | - This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. It shows information about the
| | samples used by the tune. The first column is the
| | sample number, the second is the sample name. The
| | third column is the sample length (in bytes). The
| | final column is the default volume of the sample.
| | By clicking in the name column, the sample clicked on
| | will become the current sample for 'Play Sample'.
| | Clicking menu on this window will pop up a menu
| | allowing raw sample data to be saved. The first entry
| | leads off to a submenu in which the number of the
| | sample to be saved is entered. The second entry
| | leads off to a save dialogue box. The sample data
| | can be save in the normal manner. The save sample
| | dialogue box will not show if no tune is loaded.

| Play Sample ->| - To open the window, click on the Play Sample entry.
| | To use the submenu options, move the mouse across.
| | This window will stay on the screen until it is
| | explicitly closed. This window allows the playing of
| | the samples used by the tune. They can only be played
| | while the tune is paused (the grey box at the bottom of
| | the window will change to reveal a 'Play Sample' icon).
| | All of the fields are self explanatory - click on the
| | arrows to change the value, and 'Play Sample' to play
| | the sample.
| | A couple of items have been added to to ease the
| | playing of samples:
| | 1) By clicking on the notes on the keyboard, the
| | Pitch field in the window will be set to to value
| | of the note clicked on. Additionally, if the the
| | Keyboard entry on the submenu is ticked, the
| | sample will also be played.
| | 2) By clicking on the sample name (not number) in the
| | sample info window, the sample field in the window
| | will be set to the value of the sample clicked on.
| | Additionally, if the Samples entry on the submenu
| | is ticked, then the sample will be played as well.

This program is public domain, and therefore may be freely copied. A
charge may be made, but only to cover costs of media, advertising and
postage. This application must be distributed in its entirety, with no
