Help/SetParams

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

           ** SETPARAMS **

SETPARAMS allows you to set up values
for :-

     Disc drive stepping rate
     Write precompensation
     Screen mode
     Autoboot mode

The first two of these are specified
by the drive manufacturer.

The built-in drive has a step rate of
6 mSeconds with write precompensation
on. These are automatically selected at
power-on, as are the default screen
mode of 6 and the autoboot mode of
"Autoboot on SHIFT BREAK". If any of
these values are to be changed ( to use
a slower drive, or autoboot on BREAK
rather than SHIFT BREAK, perhaps) then
SETPARAMS should be run.

SETPARAMS will prompt you for the
appropriate parameters and then create
a file, $.BootParams, which should be
*RUN or included in the !BOOT file
for the required effects to become
operational.
