!AWJune92/Goodies/Drop/!Drop/!Help
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Welcome to DDD RRR OO PPP D D R R O O P P D D RRR O O PPP D D R R O O P DDD R R OO P Instructions ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The object of the game is to fill the eight holes at the bottom of the screen with balls that are dropped from the top. Along the top of the screen is a row of sliding doors. Move the ball left and right over them using the arrow keys until you reach the door you wish to drop the ball through. Then push the down arrow key and the ball will begin to fall. When it hits a yellow spinner it will be deflected and the spinner will rotate. If a ball ends up in a hole which already contains one, both balls will disintegrate. To make it more difficult you must always have more holes filled than the number of balls shown in the box at the top of the screen. For instance: at the start the box is empty so with the first ball you must end up with at least one hole filled (which is inevitable). However, the next ball must fall in a different hole, or else they will disintegrate and no holes will be filled - game over. The number of balls in the box increases as you play so be careful where you drop! Further Help ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: The following is included to clarify and add to the above. Rotation of the spinners: The spinners always rotate when hit by the ball. However, they don't always rotate the same amount. When a ball lands on a spinner from above, the spinner will rotate and end up facing in the opposite direction to what it was originally. However, if a ball rolls past a spinner the spinner will rotate and finish in exactly the same position as before. Initial position of the spinners: The spinners always start in a completely random configuration so you'll find that sometimes a particular level is easy and other times difficult. Levels: There are four levels, each with a slightly different layout and graphics. They're not arranged in any order of difficulty though, since that mainly depends on the initial spinner positions. The ball box at the top of the screen: Initially this is empty. Therefore, if after dropping a ball you are left with all empty spaces at the bottom the game will be over. When you have filled two spaces the ball box will contain one ball. This means that your next drop must end up with more than one ball remaining. The ball box will contain two balls when you have filled four spaces, so ensure you keep at least three balls at the bottom. All three spaces in the ball box will be filled when you have filled six spaces, meaning you must always have at least four balls at any time. The ball machine: A commonly asked question is: Why does the ball machine go 'Bloop'? The answer of course is that the machine creates the balls from a mixture of various bloopy liquids and when the ball is 'spat' out that is the noise it makes. Another one is: Why does it look it does? The answer: Why not? General strategies: That's a tricky one! During the course of writing the game I've become quite an expert at it and can complete it from most positions, but it's become mainly instinct - the only help I can give is: keep playing, don't give up, if a solution isn't immediately visible disintegrate a safe number of balls and see if it helps. The quick way out: If you find you're halfway through a screen and you need a quick exit from the game without resorting to Reset, just push Esc twice which should return you to the desktop.
