Information ABOUT EUG

EUG is a magazine for users of 8 bit Acorn machines ie the Electron, The
BBC B and the Master.

EUG is published every two months on disc. The formats available are 3.5"
and 5.25" ADFS and DFS. All 80 track.

All contributions for EUG come from members. Contributions are either
original work or work previously published elsewhere but which had been
adapted to improve its functioning. In the latter case a reference will be
made to the original source.

Contributions may be on any subject which might be of interest to EUG
members. Programming, information, experience, problems, requests for help
and non-computing subjects.

Everything appearing in EUG is copyright to EUG. Nothing may be be
republished or distributed in any form to any non-EUG member without the
express premission of the editor.

Members may contact other members directly but all members are asked to
send any exchanges of information to EUG so that everyone can benefit.

EUG also carries advertising from members either selling or looking to buy
EUG cannot check the validity of any advertisment. Before buying or
selling through EUG you should satisify yourself that you are getting what
you want.

The current cost of EUG is `1 for each edition ie every two months.
For EC members `1.50 for each edition ie every two months.
For members worldwide `2.00 for each edition ie every two months.
Yearly subscriptions for six editions are encouraged.
Back numbers are available for `1 each except EUG21 which is in two parts
each part costing `1.

Where surplus monies are or have been sent these may be 'topped' up by a
member to cover the cost of an extra edition. Where this is not done
surplusses will be assumed to be contributions to EUG funds.

On your address label there will be a code showing which disc format you
have ordered and how many subscriptions are left to you.

3 indicates 3.5" disc
5 indicates 5.25" disc
A indicates ADFS
D indicates DFS
The final number indicates how many more EUG will be sent on your current
subscription, 1 indicates you will receive the next edition, 0 indicates
that this is the last in your current subscription and you will need to
send in further subscriptions. 

Mistakes are made and you should notify Gus when you think there is a
problem.

SOME SUGGESTIONS ON SUBMITTING TO EUG by Richard Dimond

These suggestions are not intended as a hard and fast rule for submissions
but as a guide to makineg the best use of the facilities provided by the
menus and coding provided.

TEXT FILES
~~~~~~~~~~
The coding for printing the text files to screen is intended to be used
with the View word processor.  While it will work with other word
processors the result may not be perfect and you will not be able to use
the highlight options.  The use of control codes, apart from the
highlights, should not be used as these will be printed by the coding and
will spoil the printing of the text.
 
The program VTYPE5 is included on the discs so that you may see your files
as they will appear on the discs before submitting them.  The program asks
first for the address of HIMEM and gives the address &2600, as on the
discs, if no address is entered.  This allows you to print longer files if
you wish.  You then have the option of which mode so that you can see your
file in 40 or 80 column format.

For best results, the full width of the View file in MODE 3 should be used
and it is not necessary to alter the ruler.  This gives a text width of 74
characters.  If a ruler is added, it should be deleted before submission
as it will be printed when the code is used and make the file look untidy.
You may use the formatting as the control codes 16 and 26 are ignored by
the coding but printing will appear as if unformatted when the code is
used.

The 40 column printing is not perfect but is about the best compromise
that could be made.  It depends on a word-wrapping routine to avoid the
splitting of words as far as possible though words of more than 10 letters
will still  be split.

For the correct printing of your files, the following method should be
used -

    1.  Titles and sub-headings should be underlined with the tilde (~).
        They may be centralised using spaces or the insert character key.
        Do not use TAB as this will appear as 1 space only.

    2.  A blank line should separate paragraphs.

    3.  Indenting the text can be used where a new line is needed, again
        using spaces only.

For letters, it is suggested that your name and address is typed in single
line as this gives a neater appearance and saves space when the file is
printed.

DIAGRAMS
~~~~~~~~
The menus allow diagrams referred to in the text to be printed to screen
following the relevant text.

Diagrams may be in any graphics mode but, if there are more than one, they
must all be in the same mode.  They are then displayed in sequence in a
similar manner to long text files.

As the last line is used for the cue to continue, it is best to avoid
using this for the diagram.

If the printer option is set they will also be printed following the text.
