This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

COUNTDOWN is a highly motivating program for pupils to test their
knowledge of multiplication tables, and their speed at doing
calculations.
GETTING STARTED
---------------
Place the disc in the drive, then click Drive to reveal Directory viewer.
Then Double click the icon !COUNTDOWN. Follow the prompts given in the
messagebox.(Bottom left of screen).
To set the options:
------------------
1. Click the MENU button over the Countdown icon.
A table is revealed.
2. Click ON to turn the timer ON or OFF.
To begin with, the timer is on.
3. Click ALL to alter the desired table
From 1-12 plus ALL
4. Click 6 to change the level.
Levels 1-3 are simpler and only include examples with multiplication.
Levels 4-6 are more difficult and use division as well in the examples.
5. Click NEW and the Countdown icon conceals the settings.
Note that the same options are used for each player until changed.

TO BEGIN:

1. Enter a name at the caret.
First delete the previous name.
2. Click START to begin.
IF no name is entered, the default name (No Name) or the previous name
will remain.
3. The prompt GO NOW! is displayed.
Type in your answer and press <RETURN>.
The program will now provide problems with a time limit of
30 SECONDS if the timer is on. (If not, TEN examples will be provided.)
During this time, the mouse is not operative. To quit, press CTRL Q.

If a player chooses the timer to be on, and the level to be 6, his/her name
will be added to the list of BEST SCORES. There are spaces for twelve names.
To begin a new list, delete file ROLL in !Countdown directory.
Print Results
------------
This will print out the individual score of the previous player.
